Postal 4 is a much bigger ride (and has improved greatly since the latest update). so in-turn doesn't more happen quicker just because of your experience? Postal 2 was a smaller area, more could happen quicker, but also if you replay it now. I do very much hope to see that improved or even revamped from the ground up. That's just straight up shîte at this point. I'm not criticizing in hopes that the entire friggin project is scrapped and restarted, I'm just sharing because I resonate with OP's feelings.Įxcept the world's level design. Obviously the game's identity and events are set in stone. So now it's just a pretty standard open world FPS with the typical less-then-ideal POSTAL gunplay. It's not *that* funny, and it's not *that* fun to engage with. That's fine, its your game after all and you dictate the writing tone, but the "haha vagina land bidet so random game of thrones parody silly cartoon wacky" tone that replaced the edge and satire is just kinda. It doesn't seem like the team is interested in going that far with 4. I mean for allah's sake the convenience store owner is a muslim with a hilariously bad and silly accent who is actually a literal member of the taliban with a small army of wives. I'm not simply criticizing Postal 4 just because it's new and unfinished.Īlso, I reiterate that even the more linear objectives in Postal 2 had an edgy or satirical bite to them to make them funny and eccentric. I also want to clarify that Paradise Lost also suffered from the same general design style as P4, where you were kinda forced down mostly linear areas that each had exactly 1 silly random joke to tell. Even bigger events like Gary Coleman had various ways to tackle them because they weren't wacky silly story setpieces but simple objectives for the player that made an attempt to heckle you into going postal. It wasnt just a "haha we said the STD meme word epiiiiic" joke setpiece, it happened during natural gameplay (albeit only on one specific day) and actually has a pretty entertaining effect on your pissing mechanics. Originally posted by Zeron:What exactly isn't "pre-scripted" in POSTAL 2 then? Genuine question What is POSTAL 4's goal as game? It's not that funny a game, its not a good open world game, and all of its iconic edgy satire has been cleanly scrubbed away. You'll forgive me if I'm not having fun while LITERALLY changing lightbulbs. The new game as a whole is just so boring and bland and sanitized. And that's after god knows how much boring walking. We hope this wacky non-sequitur will be funny for at least 20 minutes. There's no satirical edgy bite, no interesting twist on the gameplay. They're not even especially exciting moments. Those are just some examplesīut those are just pre-scripted moments. So where we at? You witness and stop a crazy prison riot on the first day, you transform into a cat on the second, you take down a major operation on the third, you get into a VR game on the fourth and on the final day even more crazy things will happen. Not to say that the team should settle on what they have now, but there's an entire suggestion forum open if you want to give more specific examples of how to better improve the gameplay or flesh out the open world. It plays just like postal 2: do the objective, look around the extra buildings for catnip/crack if you want. Emergent gameplay is key and Postal 4 doesn't really have any at the moment. You don't go from place to place looking for something to do because everywhere has something to do. We're not looking for a succession of scripted moments, we want a single, combined, cohesive experience. There's no reason for them to be spread out as much as they are with nothing in between. The reason it sucks is because they designed huge open levels and then simply scattered a few minigames around. Originally posted by Zeron:Some say POSTAL 4 is too crazy when compared to POSTAL 2.
